"The Presto" (7 Nov 1912): "Three years later [after her husband's death] the Civil War tore the South from its foundation, halting the business which had taken a quarter of a century to create. Mrs. Gennett, who had already displayed a marked ability to grasp the details of her husband's affairs, by skillfully watching every move, manages to save the real estate although the credits on her accounts and notes were sacrificed. In 1865 after the close of the war, the business was reestablished."
