Charles F. Stinson records, Brief Record of Stinson Family in NH: "...His [Capt. John Stinson] father, John Stinson came to America from Scotland by way of Ireland in 1728 and was among the early Scotch settlers of Londonderry, N.H."
From Allison (1893): "He [James Stinson, a son of John Stinson] was of Scotch descent, and his language clearly indicated his descent 'from the land of Wallace, Bruce, and the bonny Dundee.'"
From the Pillsbury Ancestry: John Stinson, born in Scotland or Ireland about 1700, died probably in Londonderry, N.H. after 1776. "John Stinson evidently came after the emigration of 1719 to Londonderry, N.H., probably about 1730 and joined the Scotch colony in that town...John Stinson was probably living as late as 1776 for a man of that name signed the Association Test in Londonderry...He seems to have spent a quiet life tilling his farm..." Deeds included: From Robert Boyes of Londonderry, Trader, 15 Jan 1732 for £26, to John Stinson, Weaver, land in Londonderry, originally laid out to Alexander Nichols in the second division. From Samuel Torrence of Canterbury, Ct., Weaver 11 Apr. 1744, for £60 to John Steenson of Londonderry, weaver, land in that township lately granted to the Company of the late Capt. Wm. Ting No.3 lying north of Dudley's farm. From John Stinson of Londonderry, yeoman, granted, 13 June 1761 to John Stinson Jr. of Londonderry, 100 acres in StarksTown, No. 13 in the third range 50 acres laid out to Samuel Emerson Esq. and the other 500 to my own right. Signed by mark. He left no will or administration.
From ???: "...our family group had lived in the Clyde River Valley near Dunbarton Castle, and were neighbors to the ancestry of the General John Stark family. "About the year 1719, the family moved from the Clyde River Valley in Scotland to northern Ireland.
"Agnes Stinson, born in 1760, told about her grandfather leaving Scotland and going to northern Ireland about 1690. Her father [John Stinson, Jr.] was born at Londonderry, Ireland in 1725. The Stinson family did not go over to Ireland with the emigration starting in 1612... "Our ancestry lived close to Glasgow and the ship yards of the Clyde River in Scotland and work at ship building, rope making, and weaving linen. Our first emigrant was a weaver. "The Stinson's took a "wait and see" attitude, talked with sailors in the harbor both from Ireland and America. The Stinson's and Stark's did not go to Ireland till about 1718. The first John Stinson married a daughter of a Scotch settler about 1723. Their first child...was born in Londonderry, Ireland March 15, 1725. They sailed for America as soon as they could sell their property and engaged passage on the small sailing boats crossing the Atlantic. They landed near Portsmouth, New Hampshire. "Histories seem to record a brother Samuel Stinson, who came at the same time but remained at Portsmouth. The ship reached port late in the fall of 1727. John Stinson and his wife and little son William made their way in the spring of 1728, to the Scotch settlement of Londonderry, NH."He married Mary Hogg (244) (A859), circa 1723. Children:
