In the 1850 census, he was listed as a farmer with a tax value of $125. He was living with "Adaline" and Mary, Delight, Philemon, Agnes, Olive, Ester, and Joseph.

"Past & Present of Chippewa County": "...His [Joseph Barcume's] father, John Barcume, was a native of Canada, and after a time in the empire state moved westward to southern Wisconsin where he engaged in farming. He died in Roxburg, Wisconsin, at the age of sixty-five, both he and his wife passing away when their son Joseph was ten years of age."

Joseph Barcume's obituary said that Joseph moved to Wisconsin in 1858 with his parents, first to Port Washington, where they lived for a year, and then to Dane County.

The name "Barcume" is not used in Canada, but is linked to "Berthiaume," a family which located just south of Quebec City.

He married Angeline Apple/Angelique Levac in St. Anicet, Huntington Co., Quebec. (73) (A79).
