J.A. Goodlander (1927): Jacob and Mary were married by Laz B. McLean, a J.P. "In 1815 Jacob moved to Dayton O. Via. Flat bottomed boat to Cinn. from there to Dayton by Wagons he there purchased a farm three miles north of Dayton where he remained until he bought the 151 acre farm just North of Connersville by a war deed...He immediately started the erection of the first Flour and Feed Mill in Fayette Co. His Son-in-law Thomas Campbell, was his miller for several years, and purchased 5 acres from the North East corner of the farm and built a Brick home and resided there for some time."
H. Caldwell (1966): "Your ancestor, Jacob...settled in Ohio about 1815, and in Fayette County about 1822...This Jacob and his father Henry, lived for a time in Brownsville, Fayette County, Redstone County, Pennsylvania...Jacob was one of the early watchmakers there." Also, "He was a member of [Masonic] Lodge No. 60 in Brownsville..." A masonic emblem is on his tombstone. His name appeared in the minutes of Warren Lodge No. 15 in Connersville June 14, 1822 and Oct. 10, 1823 as a visitor. Resolutions were adopted 1 Aug 1836 granting his request to buried with Masonic honors. The funeral was in the charge of Caleb B. Smith, who was afterwards Master of the Lodge, and a member of Abraham Lincoln's cabinet. Rev. Wm. Meeks officiated.

The Common Pleas Court of Montgomery Co. appointed Jacob Goodlander, Samuel Brier, and John Kerr (the J.P. who performed daughter Catherine's marriage ceremony) to make a land partition in the case of heirs of Robert Parks, October, 1817. According to Hist. Fayette Co. (Warner, Beer & Co.) p. 177, "The first grist mill in the township was the Jacob Goodlander mill located in sec. 7 T14R13E, on the west fork of the Whitewater River. It was built prior to 1823." He served as Justice of the Peace in Harrison Twp. 1824-27.
Fayette Observer, Sat., Aug. 19, 1826: "Jessee Goodlander and H. Staufer will not hold themselves agreeable for the safe keeping of grain received at Goodlanders Mill unless the bags or casks containing...be distinctly marked...Persons depositing grain...are not permitted to take grain out of the mill in the absence of nor without the knowledge of the miller." He was listed as a Fayette Co. taxpayer in 1829.
