A Poem, "A Rhyme" by HRG: "

Four old dames sit weekly at a table
Trying to play contract, but neverable.
The deafening sound of their noisy clatter,
Always telling each other what's the matter.

Clara the Clever with a far reaching brain; Gentle Marguerite, follows close in her train;
Dear blonde Elva who makes lots of noise,
Plays cards with a bang and not much poise.

Last is old Hazel, rightly named for a nut,
For she never knows what card should be put.
Two bits each pays at every meet,
And they save it up for something to eat,

A hard time they have to get together;
Things do happen in all kinds of weather;
If one of the dames just cannot play;
The other three wont! loyalty, say!

Now enough of money is tied in a sack,
And poor old Clara lies flat on her back.
No one can eat till she gets well,
And soon t'will be, all hope to tell.

The other three dames, they thot and thot,
What to do for poor Clara, so a flower they bought;
To tell her they love her, to hurry and get well,
So all could play cards and chatter like ------."

A weather article in the 17 Nov 1953 Richmond Palladium: "Mrs. Gennett said their first well went dry and then a large cistern. This is the first year for it to go dry, Mrs. Gennett said. They have water hauled in a 5-gallon drum from Richmond which is fed into their own distribution tank for household purposes. They fill large milk cans with drinking water from Glen Miller Park springs.

"But we've been getting our drinking water from the springs for a number of years," Mrs. Gennett said. They keep it refrigerated.<;/font>

Article in The Palladium from the Eisenhower Administration: "Mrs. Gath P. Freeman and Mrs. Fred Gennett were among members of the Society of Indiana Pioneers who joined in the society's spring pilgramage following the trek of the Lincoln family from Kentucky to Indiana this past weekend.

"Mrs. Freeman and Mrs. Gennett joined the tour Saturday at Bardstown where luncheon was served the group at the Talbot Inn. The tour included visits to 'My Old Kentucky Home' where Stephen Foster wrote many of his songs, including one of that title, and the Bardstown Cathedral to view the collection of world famous paintings...

"In the afternoon, the group visited Lincoln's birth place at Hodgenville. After crossing the Ohio River at Hawesville, they visited spots of historical interest in Cannelton and Tell City, where dinner was served. Accommodations for the night were obtained in Tell City and Cannelton.

"Sunday, after a visit to the Crippled Children's camp at Troy, the group went to the Nancy hanks Lincoln Memorial near Lincoln City. After visits to the graves of Lincoln's sister and his mother, they attended services at the Primitive Baptist Church of which Thomas Lincoln was a member. Most of the farm of Thomas Lincoln is included in the memorial area.

"Dinner Sunday was served at Santa Claus, where the tour visited the Santa Claus village.

"Approximately 90 members of the society made the tour which was accompanied by Dr. George I. Blake, professor of history at Franklin College and director of Hoosier Historical tours...

"The tour was made by chartered bus and private car."

Hazel Reid Gennett: "They say that you can take the boy out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of the boy. I believe it is true, for even now, although I have always lived in Richmond, I still have that love for the broad open country, which sentiment was handed down to me no doubt by....[missing].
