The Ogden Family: "Capt. David Ogden was a resident of Newark, N.J. In papers left by John E. Burnet (Newark) is this mention: 'Names signed to the agreement dated Sept. 3, 1701 Entitled a true copy of the articles of the first committee for the purchase of the Western part of the Township, between the mountains & the Passaic River...' Among the names are Elizabeth Ogden, David Ogden, 23, John Ogden, and Josiah Ogden, age 22.
"The forgoing facts concerning Capt. David Ogden's life are taken from the Newark Town Records.
Town Meeting, May 25th, 1713--David appointed collector of rates and assessments. "At town meeting held Nov. 2, 1713, Samuel Cooper and David Ogden, 2d, were chosen Assessors and Rate Makers, and both were reelected Nov. 1, 1714. On March 12, 1716-17, David Ogden, 2d was chosen Assessor for the Provincial tax...David was chosen for the same office Mar. 11, 1718-19, Nov 2, 1719, Mar. 8, 1719-2, and Mar. 10, 1729-30...David Ogden, 2d, and Joseph Burwell were selected by vote, Jan 20, 1714-15, to agree with the person who laid out the common line fence as to what should be the proper renumeration.
"'March 8, 1714-15, Saml. Alling & David Ogden were Chosen to meet ye Justices in order to agree about ye County Tax.' On this date, David Ogden, 2d's part of the line fence wa fixed at one chain (66 ft. extending from Bound Creek northwest to 'ye Main River.'..On Mar. 14, 1721, Joseph Crane and David Ogden, 2d were chosen Freeholders, and the latter is at this time called "Captain" Ogden. He was again elected to this office Mar. 11, 1728-9, and in company with Lieut. Samuel Cooper....Again, Mar. 1, 1729-30, and Mar. 9, 173-31, Capt. David Ogden, 2d, is one of the Board of Freeholders and is also a Fence Viewer. Twice later, he was elected Freeholder,--Mar. 14, 1731-2, and Mar. 13, 1732-3."
He was buried in Trinity Churchyard, Newark.
He married Abigail Hammond (223) (A527). Children:

ii. Abigail Ogden. Born, 11 Feb 1701/2. Died, 4 Mar 1738/9. She
married Joseph Tuttle, son of Stephen Tuttle and Ruth Fitz
Randolph, 27 Nov 1720.

iv. Uzal Ogden. Born, circa 1705. Died, 25 Jan 1780. Occupation:
High Sheriff. He married Elizabeth Charlotte Thebaut.
v. John Ogden. Born, circa 1709. Died, 14 Feb 1795. He married
Hannah Sayer.
vi. David Ogden. Born, circa 1711. Died, 28 Jan 1749/0. He married
Catherine Ogden, daughter of Josiah Ogden and Catherine
Hardenbroeck.
vii. Martha Ogden. Born, 1716. Died, 7 Feb 1802. She married, first,
Caleb Sayer. She married, second, Thomas Eagles.
