The 1830 census gives lists one male 40-49, one female 20-29, and two females 60-69 living in the household. He was the only man in New Providence listed as above 90.

Littell (1852, p. 488): "Capt. Daniel S. Wood came from Long Island to Passaic Valley about the year 1754, and learned the blacksmith trade with a Mr. Moore. Mr. Wood, when he came of age, bought the farm of Mr. Moore, and set up business himself, and lived on the farm till his death...The farm is part of lot No. 20 of Elizabethtown lots, surveyed in 1736-37, above the first mountain."

Wood (1954) The Descendants of Daniel Smith Wood: "The military record of Daniel Smith Wood as obtained from the Adjutant General of the New Jersey State House, Trenton, N.J. is as follows: Second Lieutenant, 1st Regiment, Essex Co. Militia Aug. 11, 1775; Captain, 1st Regiment Mar. 11, 1776, vice Samuel Potter, resigned; company was from Turkey in Elizabethtown. Service: Company was ordered to march to Elizabethtown March 30, 1776. Company was ordered to assemble at Elizabethtown for service in New York June 30, 1776; commanded his company of 51 men serving under Lieutenant Colonel Moses Jaques at Elizabethtown Oct. 1777; commanded company of 102 men serving at Elizabethtown under Major Jacob Crane Dec. 1777; served at Elizabethtown under Brigadier General Hinds June and July 1778; commanded company of 62 men serving at Acquackanock under Lt. Col. Jaques Sept. 24 to Oct. 7, 1778; was at the Battle of Connecticut Farms N.J. June 7, 1780, Elizabethtown, N.J. June 8, 178; and Springfield, N.J. June 23, 178 in which several in his company were wounded; received certificates No. 363 and 1338 dated Sept. 14 and 16, 1784, and signed by Thomas Clark for £18/2/6 and £12/2/6 respectively for the depreciation of his Continental pay for services as Captain in the Essex Co. Militia.

"The inventory of the estate of Daniel S. Wood, made by Moses Roberts and Henry J. New Jersey Ratables 1778-80 lists a Daniel Wood with 55 acres, 2 horses, 2 cattle, 2 hogs.

Wood believed Daniel to be the son of John Wood and Deborah Smith of Long Island, mentioned in the will of Daniel Smith 1753.

The death of Joseph Wood is mentioned in the records of the New Providence Presbyterian Church. (Gen. Mag. NJ) He is buried in the Methodist Cemetery.

He married, first, Sarah Johnson (113) (A131). Children:
