A letter dated 1904 from Mary Ann Jane Reid: Daniel (her grandfather) "...enlisted and served throughout the Revolutionary War and received 320 acres of land at the end of the War...[Daniel] and his brother [William] married and lived and died in Virginia."

The 1778 titheables of Rockbridge Co. list 1 tithable for Daniel Reid in Alexander Stewart's list, alongside Adam and William Reid. In 1782, he owned 2 horses and 4 cows. Shreiner-Yantis & Love (1987):In the 1787 titheables, Daniel owned 3 horses and 12 cows.

Rockbridge Co. Court Orders: 4 March 1783, "Daniel Reid and Margaret his wife Pltf. against Robert Hammell Defendant In Case. This day came the parties by their attornies & thereupon also came a Jury viz John McClung, Thomas Hudson, Joseph Alexander, Robert Lyle, Alexander Baggs, James Bailey, Thomas Lecky, Jun., Joseph Little, Alexander Walker, Arthur Beaty, Andrew Bogle, & Joseph Bogle...[they] say that the defendant is guilty of Slander in the Declaration mentioned in Manner and form as the plaintiff against him hath declared, and they do assess the plaintiff damages by Declaration Thereof to Two Pounds Ten Shillings besides his costs..."
2 March 1784, "Daniel Reid Plaintiff against Robert Hamill Defendant Upon an Attachment. The Defendant not appearing on the motion of the Plaintiff by Andrew Moore his Attorney Judgement is granted him against said the Defendant for..." £8 19s "...and Costs, and the Attachment being 'Executed in the hands of James Dixon and him Summoned a Garnishee'..."

From Berry (1986) There are US land purchases by Daniel Reid of Virginia 22 Oct 1810 R1 T9 sec. 6 and & 7, and to Adam Reid of Warren County, OH 5 Nov 1810 sec. 5, in Indiana, Franklin Co.

Augusta Circuit Court Records, Chalkey, vol. 2,: "McCampell vs. Borden --O.S. 256; N.S. 90, Bill 1811. Prior to 5th March 1746-7, James McCune or McCown, bought from Borden 400 acres of 92,100 and received deed 14th July, 1749. Alexr. McKenny, son of William, answers. Daniel Reid, aged 56, deposes 4th March, 1813, has lived on his present home land 40 years..."

Daniel's will, written in Rockbridge County, left the following:
My beloved wife Margaret Reed: her bed, her clothes, and a good saddle horse, the house, kitchen furniture, and the Negro girl Sally as long as she [Margaret] lives. Also one milch cow to be kept for her on the plantation. After her death Sally and her children to be divided between sons Daniel and Andrew.
Nancy Wiley, Ann Taylor, Adam Reid, Elizabeth Reid, James Reid: one dollar.
William Reid: One quarter section number seven in township 9 range 1 "west of a meridian line drawn from the mouth of the great Miami river.
John Reid: One quarter section of land southeast 1/4 section six etc.
Daniel Reid: The east end of the plantation with the dwelling house and other improvements to begin at a double walnut by the Newfield Bars, also one dark bay mare.
Andrew W. Reid: The north west end of the plantation (same division as above), also one dark bay colt one year old.
He left all his farming and smithing tools on the farm until the youngest child comes of age, and then to be equally divided between Daniel and Andrew W.
If Andrew or Daniel died without heirs, the other would have the whole of "the land and stock and farming tools, wagon and smith tools, and what money I possessed at my decease, Margaret may use for her benefit and for the benefit of these two sons.
